Intermodulation is an CRT audio visual installation built for 90mil Salon. It is based on a technique I discovered in which a specifically crafted digital signal is converted to analog and transmitted over RF, hitting both the video and audio bands of the TV receiver simultaneously. Basically, the video is made so that the frequency of the signal also hits the audio range. In effect, this means that what you see on the TV is also the synthesis of the sound.
The digital video signal is composed of a real-time cellular automaton system built in TouchDesigner and GLSL. The aesthetic is some form of organic digitalism which mimics patterns of growth, life, and decay.
At its core it’s an exploration of contrasting structures: organic versus computational, analog versus digital, image versus sound, creating an environment where viewers can observe these contrasts in a familiar setting. ⟳
